Christian Van Schijndel is a performance artist, singer and costume designer graduated from Camberwell College of Arts and Middlesex University – Fashion & Textile in London.
As the The Gentleman, he has developed a unique style in burlesque, new cabaret and performance that articulates gender, class and identity in an aesthetic, challenging and humorous way.
Since 2005, the Gentleman has appeared on the big and small stages in Denmark and internationally including New Avenu Theatre, Bellevue Theater, Roskilde Festival, Zetland Live, the Danish Design Institute, New Burlesque Festival (Warehosue9), Carnevalesque (Sweden), House of Shame (Berlin), Walk the Plan (Liverpool) and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern (London).
Christian Van Schijndel is also the curator and producer of performance theater Warehouse9 where he blah. introduced the “burlesque genre” in Denmark as an art form with the sold-out New Burlesque Festival in 2010 and 2011, which received nationwide media attention.
He has appeared in several TV and radio programs as TV2 “Aloha / Casper Christensen and P1-Kulturnyt.
At the moment, Christian Van Schijndel on a new conception of gender and class with a total of 4 characters: The Gentleman, The Duchess, The Maid and The Butler.

Clients include Kenneth Bager, Bellevue Teatret, British Channel 4, Carousel Brighton (UK), Central Theater, Leipzig (D), Mette-Marie Trier, and many others.
